Bookmarks for Requirements, Features etc

Hi,

It would be very helpful when eaDocX will create in .docx bookmarks for every requirements, features and other element types. It is key to create clear names of them in docx so not BM12123123 but e.g. the first 6 characters from the element name.

Ideally, if it would be possible to configure how many characters from a given element type name in EA should be used for creation of bookmarks. This will support various auto-numbering in EA and give a full flexibility for the user.

Finally, such user friendly bookmarks will help the user maintain his .docx clear and simple.

We reduce the number of bookmarks to only those needed by document cross-references in order to make the document faster to generate. This is really important for large documents.
Using the element name as the basis for a bookmark name would cause lots of duplicates in a large document, as Word restricts bookmarks to 13 characters. So, eaDocX generates a numerical hash from the GUID, which is usually unique.
Why do you need to use the the eaDocX bookmarks anyway ?

Hi,

There are two reasons:

1.
Sometimes it would be helpful to refer to a given requirement within the document describing features ad requirements. This reference is something extra than matrix between them both.

2.
We have corporate document template with dedicated areas where we should include links to requirements. It would be easier for me to manually input those references in Word directly, rather than create artificial structure in EA to create such tables in eaDocX.

OK – I understand, but sorry, that’s the way eaDocX does things. No possibility to change, this as it would be impossible to make it work for existing customers
