Check mode
If you use Model Expert in ‘Check mode’, this means you are allowing your users to create models, then you check them afterwards.
The ‘check’ is done against a Reference Model. But if you have an RM, why not use guided mode, and stop the errors from happening in the first place?
But there are several reason why you might want to, or have to, use ‘check mode’:
- If you have just created your RM, and want to see what the effects will be. Checking a few existing diagrams to see how many errors there are may cause you to modify your RM.
- You don’t control the modellers. You may not be able to change how modellers do things, including to use your RM. If you can only check work they have already done, it’s probably better to that rather than no checking at all.
- If you have old model content which you want to re-use. Doing some checks will help you discover the quality and consistency of that content, before you commit to re-using it.
Guided Mode
If you choose to make all your new packages ‘managed’ then you’re using what we call ‘guided mode’. This means that modellers will be helped every step of the way: when they create diagrams, new elements, and when they populate elements with data.
And the information you add into your Model Expert RM will train them about the right way to do their modelling, so over time they will get better and faster.
